TRANSLATOR’S NOTE

While English translations serve as vital tools for accessing the message of the Qur’an, it is a fundamental principle in Islamic scholarship that no translation can ever replace or equal the original Arabic text. The Qur’an is regarded not only as a set of meanings but as the literal Word of God, where the specific Arabic vocabulary, phonetic rhythm, and complex grammatical structures are inextricably linked to its miraculous nature (I’jaz). Translating the text inevitably results in the loss of its multi-layered semantic depth, as a single Arabic word may carry various nuances that a single English equivalent cannot fully encapsulate. Consequently, any translation is viewed merely as an "interpretation of the meanings" (Tarjamah al-Ma'ani), a human effort to convey the divine message that remains a shadow of the linguistic majesty and spiritual resonance found only in the original Arabic revelation.

In our study, we move beyond the limitations of a single-source exegesis by adopting a comparative and multi-perspectival approach. Rather than relying on the interpretation of a single commentator (mufassir), we synthesize insights from a diverse range of classical and contemporary scholars. This methodology allows for a more nuanced understanding of the verses, as it captures the various linguistic, historical, and spiritual dimensions highlighted by different schools of thought. By juxtaposing these varying explanations, we aim to provide a comprehensive "atomic" view of the text, ensuring that the reader is presented with the full breadth of scholarly discourse surrounding each verse, thereby fostering a deeper and more balanced engagement with the Divine message.
