ABOUT THE TRANSLATOR

Philologist Ahmet Akmehmetoglu was born in Duzce, Turkiye in 1965. He completed his primary education in Turaplar Village School. Then he went to Duzce Secondary School and Duzce High School respectively. He studied Electricity in the Electrical Department of Vocational School of Duzce for two years and completed in 1983. Then he got a job in an American Company called Foster Wheeler Intercontinental Corporation as an electrician in the construction of Afsin-Elbistan Thermal Power Plant and worked for Siemens Department for two years. He left work and went back to university for further education. He studied English Language and Literature in Istanbul University for four years and graduated in 1992. While he was studying at university, he also worked as a translator for Yuksel-Rendel Joint Venture Engineer’s Representative and for the Contractor Astaldi in the construction of Gumusova –Gerede Anatolian Motorway in the Summer holidays for four years.

After he had graduated from Istanbul University, he got a job as an English Lecturer in Vocational School of Duzce in 1992. Established under Istanbul Technical University as part of a project supported by the World Bank and in cooperation with the Council of Higher Education (YOK), Duzce Vocational School was later affiliated with Abant Izzet Baysal University upon its foundation, and subsequently transferred to Duzce University when it was established. Ahmet Akmehmetoğlu, who has continued his career as a lecturer throughout all these processes, is currently serving as a lecturer at the Duzce University, Hakime Erciyas School of Foreign Languages. In addition to his academic career at the university, he has also served as a judicial interpreter at the Duzce Courts, and provided consultancy and sworn translation services to various import and export companies and made religious book translations as well. He is divorced and has one hafid son named Mehdi. He speaks Turkish as a mother tongue and he can speak English and Arabic as foreign languages.
